John David Bamford RIP

John David Bamford RIP.  12th April 1938 - 1st March 2023

It is with sadness that we announce the death of John David Bamford. 

John was a long-standing member of the Lesbian & Gay Christian Movement, then OneBodyOneFaith, and a founding member of the LGBT+ group 3F, which regularly met at St Botolphs, Aldgate. 

In his professional life, John was a secondary school teacher, and it is noteworthy that one of his former pupils provided a moving tribute to him at his funeral. 

Perhaps, John will best be remembered by very many people for his gifts as a talented musician and organist. He played in far too many churches to mention, but more recently he was the organist at Holy Trinity, Tottenham, for seven years, then at St Botolphs, Aldgate. 

John was always passionate about inclusion and that LGBT+ lives and relationships should be fully valued and celebrated in every aspect of church life and ministry. The preacher at his funeral commented that ‘John did not have a discriminatory bone in his body.’  

John’s funeral took place at Holy Trinity, Tottenham, on April 21st 2023.

John will be much missed by family, friends and by all of us who have worked alongside him for justice and full inclusion within our churches and communities.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
