OneBodyOneFaith sets out an exciting, collaborative future for LGBTQ+ Christians

Following a Trustee Strategy Day held on Saturday 24 January 2026, OneBodyOneFaith is pleased to share a renewed and hopeful vision for the future of LGBTQ+ Christian witness, community, and advocacy.

Trustees spent the day reflecting deeply on the charity’s purpose, values, and calling at a time when LGBTQ+ Christians continue to face exclusion, hostility, and erasure in many church and public spaces. The clear conclusion was that distinctively LGBTQ+ Christian voices are needed now more than ever, and that OneBodyOneFaith has a vital role to play in ensuring those voices are heard, respected, and amplified.

As the charity approaches its 50th anniversary, trustees affirmed OneBodyOneFaith’s enduring strengths: its long history and credibility, its ecumenical breadth, its commitment to safeguarding and solidarity, and its ability to bring together advocacy, pastoral care, worship, and community in ways that are rooted in faith and lived experience

A Confident LGBTQ+ Identity

Trustees agreed that clarity and confidence about who we are matters. OneBodyOneFaith will therefore adopt LGBTQ+as the language that best reflects the breadth of the community it serves today, while honouring its heritage as the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement.

The charity will also introduce a new strapline:

OneBodyOneFaith: The LGBTQ+ Christian Movement

This renewed identity signals both continuity and confidence: rooted in faith, shaped by experience, and outward-looking in its commitment to justice, joy, and inclusion.

Independence with Collaboration at the Heart

Trustees affirmed that OneBodyOneFaith will remain an independent charity for the time being, providing a clear and trusted LGBTQ+ Christian voice across denominations and traditions. At the same time, there was strong enthusiasm for working more closely and creatively with partner organisations.

In particular, trustees identified exciting opportunities to:

  • Align strategically with partner organisations building on shared values while avoiding duplication;
  • Share resources and collaborate on advocacy, education, and training; and
  • Work alongside partners to strengthen pastoral care, worship, and online and in-person community

This collaborative approach reflects a shared conviction that the future lies not in isolation, but in partnership, generosity, and mutual support.

Looking Ahead

Over the coming months, OneBodyOneFaith will:

  • Invest in refreshed branding and digital platforms, with a particular emphasis on providing information and support to LGBTQ+ who are exploring their faith and Christians who are exploring their sexuality and gender identity
  • Grow its online worship, retreats, and community spaces
  • Develop new leadership resources and other online content, delivering the project so generously funded by Sir Halley Stewart Trust
  • Support the campaign to see affirming and inclusive candidates elected to the Church of England General Synod and other bodies
  • Strengthen its presence as a convening space for LGBTQ+ Christians across traditions
  • Continue to advocate boldly for inclusion, dignity, and safeguarding in church life

The trustees leave this Strategy Day energised and hopeful. At a time of uncertainty and challenge, they believe deeply that LGBTQ+ Christians are not called merely to survive, but to flourish, and that OneBodyOneFaith has an important role in helping to shape that future.

We look forward to working closely with members, supporters, partners, and friends as we step into this next chapter together.
