Christians Voices Coming Out at the LSE

We are delighted that our friends at the London School of Economics Library have made our Christian Voices Coming Out project available online here.

In 2016, to celebrate the 40th birthday of OneBodyOneFaith (previously the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement), Christian Voices Coming Out was launched. It marked forty years of prophecy, protest and pride. Over those 40 years, members of OneBodyOneFaith and other groups, as well as committed individuals inside and beyond the churches, worked together for justice, inclusion and compassion, often at significant cost.

They have welcomed and supported one another when the churches have appeared hostile and uncaring, through times of personal transition and social change. They have been at work, often unseen, at a grassroots level, and they were amongst the first to respond to the AIDS epidemic.

With support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, volunteers recorded the stories of these pioneers, in their own words. The recordings form part of the Hall Carpenter collection at the LSE, alongside OneBodyOneFaith's archive.

You can find out a little about some of the participants, including Jim Cotter, Christina Beardsley and Colin Coward, here
